faq

Do you have to be a really good cricketer to attend the academy?

No. Cricketers of all abilities can attend the cricket academy where they will receive quality coaching and play for matches for a club at the weekends.

What is the duration of the academy programmes?

We run a 6 week programme before Christmas and a 10 week programme after Christmas.

How many players usually undertake the 6 and 10 week programmes?

There are usually between 10 and 15 players on each academy programme.

How do players travel from their accommodation to the academy and to the cricket clubs they join in Brisbane?

All players attending the academy live in 4 star city centre apartments which are close to public transport.  The academy is a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre and there are buses throughout the day.

Players are either given a lift or travel to their club on public transport. Brisbane has an excellent public transport so it is very easy to travel around the city

What do people do with their kit at the academy?

Players either leave their kit at the academy during the week in a secure place or keep their kit in their apartments and take it with them on public transport to training sessions.

What type of visa should I obtain if I attend the cricket academy in Brisbane?

The programmes are intensive so most players don’t work during their time at the academy.  We therefore suggest that people obtain an Australia Tourist Visa which your travel agent should be able to organise for you.
If you plan to extend your trip and work in Australia then you should obtain an Australian Working Holiday Visa. This visa enables you to live and work in Australia for up to 12 months. Sport Lived can put you in touch with reputable companies who can arrange your Australian Working Holiday Visa.

Is there any support whilst I’m away?

All staff at the academy are fully trained to deal with any sporting issues that arise during the placement. On the ground pastoral support will be available from the Sport Lived office in Brisbane who will be on hand to deal with any issues. You will be provided with full contact details of this office to ensure any problems are quickly dealt with.  The staff on the ground organise social events for the people on the programme ensuring that you have lots of fun and settle quickly in Brisbane.

Can I stay in Brisbane at the end of my programme?

Yes.  If you would like to do this please liaise with the Sport Lived staff in Brisbane.

Does our accommodation have internet facilities?

Yes all apartments have broadband internet access should you wish to bring a laptop.

What bills will I have to pay for in my accommodation?

The apartments are self catering so you will need to buy food.  Cooking facilities and utensils are provided.  You will also need to pay for using the telephone and internet access.

What clothes are provided at the academy?

Upon arrival you will receive academy t-shirts, shorts and cap.

What happens if it rains? In the unlikely event of rain, players train indoors. The academy has access to indoor cricket centres in Brisbane.
