Mentoring and support

Part of the family

Our team of local overseas mentors play a crucial role in the Sport Lived experience. Mentors offer support throughout your time overseas and provide reliable and friendly services at all times. They act as the main point of contact for all participants and help to make sure that each Sport Lived participant gets the most from their placement abroad. It's also reassuring for family back home to know that this support is always available.

Settling in

Your mentor will be in touch around 4 weeks prior to departure to answer any questions you might have before leaving home. Upon arrival, your mentor will meet you at the airport and take you to your chosen accommodation. They will also be on-hand, particularly during the first few weeks of your programme whilst you’re settling into life in a new city. As well as general support and assistance, your mentor will:

- Organise regular social events

- Get you sorted out with a bank account and tax registration if you're working overseas

- Familiarise you with the public transport in your chosen city and show you how to travel to the venue of your placement

- Ensure that you're familiar with local medical facilities and get you registered with health authorities where necessary

- Provide guidance on finding work
