Coach Rowing in Australia

Sport Lived organise for people to coach rowing in schools in Australia.  We run rowing coaching programmes to Melbourne which last for between 10-12 weeks.  You can either coach rowing in Melbourne from October - December or January - April.

During your programme you will coach school rowing crews for the duration of a school term.  You will be responsible for taking training sessions during the week and preparing your crew for local and national regattas. Most people get between 10 and 15 hours of coaching work per week and are paid between £7 and £12 per hour. Coaching sessions are usually held between 6-8am and 3.30–5.30pm Monday – Thursday and between 8am - 12pm on Saturday mornings. 

A number of the schools where we arrange for people to coach organise 3-4 day rowing training camps to inland Victoria.  The training camps usually take place in January before the main regattas which are held in February/March and provide you with a fantastic opportunity to visit a new part of the country and bond with your crew and fellow coaches. 

You live in 4 star apartments with Sport Lived participants playing and coaching other Summer sports including tennis, cricket and swimming.  Most people stay in 2 bedroom apartments and all Sport Lived participants stay in the same complex.

We recommend that people interested in coaching rowing in Australia obtain a coaching qualification such as a UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rowing.  More information on this qualification and centres where coaching courses are being run can be found at the ARA website: www.ara-rowing.org

You will need to obtain a first aid qualification.  We recommend that people obtain a basic first aid qualification from an organisation such as the St John’s Ambulance. 

Please Note:    If you are unable to obtain a rowing coaching or First Aid qualification prior to you departure please let us know.   Some schools are happy to employ people provided they have rowed previously and have some coaching experience.   We can also enrol you on a coaching and First Aid course when you arrive in Australia.

We have affiliations with several excellent rowing clubs in Melbourne and can organise for you to join one of these clubs should you wish to row as well as coach rowing during your time overseas.
