Coach Swimming in Australia

Sport Lived offers you a wonderful opportunity to teach swimming in schools and aquatic centres in Australia. We organise for people to teach swimming in Melbourne for 10-12 weeks.  You can teach swimming during 3 periods: October – December, January – March; April – late June. 

During your time in Australia you will teach swimmers aged 5-18 for the duration of a school term.  You will teach swimmers at beginner level and also at intermediate and advanced levels.  You are assigned your hours and the groups you will be teaching upon your arrival.  Most people get 15 hours of teaching work per week and are paid between £7 and £12 per hour.

The schools and aquatic centres where you’ll be teaching have fantastic facilities.  Most teachers are based at Melbourne’s main aquatic centre which hosted the majority of swimming events during the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

You will live in 4 star apartments with other Sport Lived participants playing and coaching sport in the same city providing you with a ready made group of friends as soon as you arrive.  Most people stay in 2 bedroom apartments and all Sport Lived participants stay in the same complex.

In order to teach swimming in Australia you must have an ASA Level 2 Teaching Swimming Qualification. More information on this qualification and centres where coaching courses are being run can be found at the ASA website: www.britishswimming.org  

We have affiliations with excellent swimming clubs in Melbourne and can organise for you to join one of the clubs should you wish to swim as well as teach swimming during your time overseas.    

Sport Lived runs an 8 week swimming programme to Brisbane during July and August, ideal for university students or those not taking a gap year.  We can arrange for people to teach swimming at aquatic centres in Brisbane during this period.
