Sport Lived offer you the once in a lifetime opportunity to play hockey in Australia.  Australia must be any hockey players dream destination. The climate is perfect, the facilities on offer are outstanding and the organisation of club hockey excellent.

Our hockey programmes provide you with the chance to live and play hockey in a vibrant sporting environment.  You can choose the duration of your hockey programme.  We run hockey programmes to all the main cities in Australia between March – August where you’ll play hockey with a quality club for an entire southern hemisphere season.  We also run a 12 week programme to Brisbane between March and June and an 8 week programme to Brisbane during July and August ideal for university students or those not taking a gap year.  As well as having outstanding hockey facilities Brisbane also has warm weather throughout the year so you’re guaranteed loads of sunshine whenever you go.

In each city in Australia we have handpicked the best hockey clubs who have excellent coaching, facilities and top social scenes.  Most clubs have 5-7 senior men’s and women’s teams who can accommodate players of all abilities.  Whether you have aspirations to play internationally or play purely for fun there will be a team suitable for you. If you play for your clubs first team you will play with and against state and international players.

Most hockey clubs train 2-3 evenings per week and play matches at the weekends.  There are also optional gym and fitness sessions during the week and depending on the team you play for, you might also be given a gym pass.  The majority of training sessions and matches are held on water based pitches.  If you to go to Sydney you’ll play a number of matches at the Sydney Olympic Park which has amazing sporting facilities including two water based pitches.   

The hockey clubs we arrange for people to join offer an unrivalled range of social activities!  Regular club social events are organised throughout the season including new players’ nights, beach BBQs, quiz nights and days out watching state and international games.  Some clubs also organise pre-season tours and training camps usually to either the country or one of the other main cities in Australia.  As well as being fun these trips are also a fantastic opportunity to bond with your team mates and visit new parts of the country.

Most hockey clubs have large junior sections and we encourage all Sport Lived participants to get involved in coaching juniors during their time in Australia.  Coaching is lots of fun and a great way to develop key skills such as leadership, communication and organisational skills.  In addition, we also have an excellent relationship with the top sporting schools in each city and we can help people to find paid hockey coaching work in schools during the week. 

Whilst in Australia, you will live in 4 star city centre apartments with Sport Lived participants playing hockey and other sports such as rugby, netball, football and swimming.  Most people stay in 2 bedroom apartments and everyone lives in the same complex providing you with a ready made group of friends as soon as you arrive.  Living in the city means you’re near nightlife and numerous places where you can work.  It also means you’re near public transport making it easy for you to get to your club to attend training and matches. 

In each city Sport Lived employ co-ordinators who are available 24/7 throughout your programme.  Our staff will show you how to travel from your accommodation to your club, open a bank account and generally help you to get settled in your new home city.  They also organise regular social events for all Sport Lived players and coaches which usually include introductory drinks during the first week of your programme, beach BBQs, nights out at major sporting events and fancy dress parties.
