Play Netball in New Zealand

Netball is the most popular team sport for women in New Zealand. 200,000 women play regularly for over 1,000 clubs all over the country which helps to explain the Kiwi's success at international level. The widespread participation also means that playing netball is a fantastic path into the New Zealand way of life, local clubs have members of all ages and all abilities and the sport is really at the heart of community life.

Sport Lived organise for people to play netball in all the main cities in New Zealand – Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.  We run netball programme between March – August.  We also run an 8 week programme to Auckland during July and August ideal for university students or those not taking a gap year.  In each city we have handpicked the best netball clubs who have excellent coaching, facilities and top social scenes.  Most clubs have 8-10 teams so they can accommodate players of all abilities. Players usually have one match and one training session per week. 

Most netball clubs have large junior sections and we encourage all Sport Lived participants to get involved in coaching juniors during their Gap Year in New Zealand.  Coaching is lots of fun and a great way to develop key skills such as leadership, communication and organisational skills. 

During your New Zealand netball programme you will live in 4 star city centre apartments with Sport Lived participants playing netball and other sports such as hockey, rugby, football and swimming.  Most people stay in 2 bedroom apartments and everyone lives in the same complex providing you with a ready made group of friends as soon as you arrive.  Living in the city means you’re near nightlife and numerous places where you can work.  It also means you’re near public transport making it easy for you to get to your club to attend training and matches. 

Sport Lived employ staff in each city who are available 24/7 throughout your programme.  Our staff will show you how to travel from your accommodation to your club, provide assistance in finding work and generally help you to get settled in your new home city.  They will also organise regular social events for all Sport Lived players and coaches which usually include introductory drinks during the first week of your programme, beach BBQs, nights out at major sporting events and fancy dress parties.
