Australia is the ideal destination for anyone wanting to base their gap year around tennis. It hosts a grand slam tournament in Melbourne, is one of the world’s most successful Davis Cup nations, and has produced some of the world’s best players including Lleyton Hewitt, Todd Woodbridge and Alicia Molik.

Sport Lived organises tennis programmes in all the main cities.  Programmes run from September to March or March to late August.  Alternatively we run a 12 week tennis programme to Brisbane between March and June and we run an 8 week tennis programme to Brisbane during July and August, ideal for university students or those not taking a gap year. 

We have handpicked the best tennis clubs who have excellent facilities, coaching and top social scenes.  You will train 2-3 evenings and play matches against other clubs at the weekends.  All of the clubs have lots of members and numerous teams and can therefore accommodate players of all abilities.  As well as playing matches for your club, keen tennis players can also enter tennis tournaments organised by regional governing bodies such as Tennis Victoria. 

You will stay in 4 star city centre apartments with other Sport Lived participants providing a ready made group of friends as soon as you arrive.  Living in the city means you’re near nightlife and numerous places where you can work when you’re not playing tennis.  You’re also near public transport making it easy to get to your club.

A number of the tennis clubs have a large junior section and we encourage all Sport Lived participants to coach junior players at their club.  Coaching is lots of fun and a great way to develop leadership, communication and organisational skills. 

Note: Sport Lived has an excellent relationship with the top tennis schools in all the main cities and can help people to obtain paid tennis coaching work at schools between October and March.
