Water Polo: Experience in Argentina

Clubs   

Argentine water polo clubs are large with many members and teams competing at a wide range of levels. Matches take place regularly and involve competition against other clubs in the local area. The standard of facilities is excellent ensuring a high quality sporting experience.

Sport Lived work with only the most welcoming of sports clubs and we aim to ensure there are a number of English speakers. You’ll play alongside other Sport Lived participants and locals all of which ensure smooth integration into life at your club.

Training & matches

You will train in the pool around 3 times per week alongside other Sport Lived participants and your new Argentine teammates. Your programme includes membership of the club so facilities are available throughout the week should you wish to train independently. 

Transport to and from your club for training sessions is included in the price of all programmes to Argentina.
   

Out of the pool

Your club will host regular social events such as meals, informal drinks and parties. You’ll have a great chance to meet lots of local Argentines and experience the fun of club sport first-hand.

Tango and Salsa Class

What better place to learn tango than the country where it was born? You’ll have a great time taking tango and salsa lessons at one of the best dance schools in Rosario. We will also arrange a visit to a Tango restaurant where you’ll enjoy dinner and show at "La casa del tango", a prestigious local restaurant that offers live music and tango shows.

Football Match

Live the experience of being part of Argentina’s passionate football fans. You’ll watch either "Rosario Central" or "Newell's Old Boys" and sample a live match atmosphere first-hand. After the match, we’ll celebrate victory or commiserate defeat with a typical Argentinean asado.

Rosario City Tour

Immerse yourself in your new home Rosario by visiting the main points of interest that make up this vibrant city. You’ll visit Rosario’s different neighborhoods, see the beautiful parks, fairs, markets and cultural bars in the center of the city. After the visit, we’ll eat in one of the city’s characteristic grills and then show you around the best night spots in Rosario.

Bike and Kayak Tour

For young sports and nature lovers we have a combined activity of bicycle along the coast visiting sites of interest, and then enjoying an unforgettable trip by kayak in the Paraná River and its islands.

Paintball

A fun game of combat against your fellow participants!! You’ll do battle in a one hectare field full of artificial and natural obstacles where they try to hit their targets and achieve different goals. It includes complete equipment and experienced staff.

Day on the Islands with picada and asado

Enjoy a beautiful day on a river island. After crossing the broad Paraná River, we’ll explore one of the most attractive islands where you’ll enjoy a traditional "asado" (Argentine barbeque) lunch.

Our local language school is located close to your apartments and lessons are fun and interactive. You’ll receive around 8 hour’s tuition per week and there is an optional exam at the end of the course.

We thoroughly recommend taking a Spanish course. Speaking the local language will help you integrate quickly into Argentine life and get more out of your sports club. It will also prove useful should you wish to explore more of South America and enhances any CV.

What type of visa do I need in Argentina?

UK citizens can obtain a 90 day tourist visa on arrival in Argentina. If your trip is likely to extend beyond 90 days, you will need apply for a visa extension. You can apply for an extension whilst in Argentina at the British embassy in Buenos Aires. All Sport Lived programmes to Argentina last for less than 90 days.

I don’t speak Spanish, is this a problem?

No worries (“No se preocupe”)! You’ll have a local mentor available throughout your stay who speaks fluent English and can help with any issues. We also make every effort to place participants with sports clubs where English is spoken by a number of members. In addition, you will be living and training with other Sport Lived participants.

We recommend that participants enroll on the optional Spanish courses. As well as being a fantastic addition to your CV, learning Spanish will enhance your experience in Argentina. Plus you’ll be able to chat-up the locals whilst out on the town.

What’s included in the price of my programme and how much spending money will I require?

The cost of all Sport Lived programmes to Argentina includes the following:
•    4-star accommodation including most household bills (telephone and internet charges are NOT covered)
•    membership of your water polo club
•    airport pick-up at the start of your programme
•    mentor support throughout your stay
•    a handbook with useful information

The programme cost does NOT include the following:
•    flights, insurance, visas, return airport transfer, local transport or food

Your main costs whilst overseas will be transport, match/competition fees plus food and beer money. A cost of living guide for each Sport Lived destination is provided in the Need to Know section. This should help you plan and budget for your time away.

Do I need to be an elite player?

Absolutely not! We cater for players of all abilities. We will obtain further information on your sporting ability once you have submitted your booking form. This will allow us to match you with a suitable club. If you’re an elite player, we’ll ensure you’re matched with a top-class club who know you’re serious about sport!

When will I find out full details of my programme e.g. what club I will join and where I will live?

Once you have sent in a booking form, we’ll start working behind the scenes to put everything in place for the perfect programme. 3-4 weeks later you’ll receive a confirmation document outlining details of your club, key dates and an overview of your specific programme details.

Final payment for all programmes is due 12 weeks before to departure which allows us to finalise accommodation arrangements and send you details of your flatmates and your new address in Argentina!
The pre-departure briefing takes place around 8 weeks before you join us and provides a chance for you and your parents to meet up with the Sport Lived team and fellow participants and ask any remaining questions you may have.
